Trans Karoo |
Description: |
For many years the fast passenger running between Cape Town and Johannesburg was named the Trans-Karoo, a name taken from the arid Karoo region which the train crosses on its journey. Even today, railway personnel still refer to the Cape Town - Jo'burg trains by this name, even though it now runs in two sections. In this scene, two Class 6E electrics, E1197 & E1180 bring the Shosholoza Meyl "Economy" down the long grade into Laingsburg, on its way to Cape Town. |
