Trans Karoo
Title:  Trans Karoo
Description:  For many years the fast passenger running between Cape Town and Johannesburg was named the Trans-Karoo, a name taken from the arid Karoo region which the train crosses on its journey. Even today, railway personnel still refer to the Cape Town - Jo'burg trains by this name, even though it now runs in two sections. In this scene, two Class 6E electrics, E1197 & E1180 bring the Shosholoza Meyl "Economy" down the long grade into Laingsburg, on its way to Cape Town.

Class 6E's E1167 & E1189 are in charge of the 13-car train. Bringing up the rear is a motor car carrier, giving passengers the option of taking their car along with them on the journey.

Karoo Landscape 2
Title:  Karoo Landscape 2
Description:  The sun has already dipped behind the mountains, but the bright sky on this hot summer evening is enough to light up the Shosholoza Meyl "Tourism" as it nears Dwyka in the arid Karoo region of the Western Cape, en route to Johannesburg. Class 6E electrics E1167 & E1189 will haul the train to Beaufort West, where a Class 7E 25kv electric will take over.
